Put Down the Peeps, Ma’am

The late Nell Mitchell, a former Overland Park resident and Paseo High School gym teacher, left $1 million to the Johnson County Community College Foundation. The idea: to provide continuing health education, including the annual wellness fair that promotes well-being and fitness. It takes place in the fieldhouse of the gymnasium at JCCC (northwest section of campus, 12345 College Boulevard, in Overland Park). Among the activities this year: chair massages and back scans with infrared thermal technology. Also, learn your exercise heart rate and get information on stress, chronic fatigue syndrome and breast-cancer prevention. Representatives from the American Heart Association, the Johnson County Mental Health Department, Fibromyalgia Coalition International and other health-care organizations are on-site to dispense information and guide you on your path to feeling like Nell Mitchell’s million bucks. The event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, contact JCCC wellness coordinator Ruth Dey at rdey@jccc.edu or 913-469-8500,
