Public Works

If you’ve ever had a hankering for large lady Vikings and murderous Italian clowns belting out arias, your options for satisfaction just increased, thanks to the newly formed Lawrence Opera Works. With a mission of providing performance opportunities for both up-and-coming and professional opera singers, Lawrence Opera Works stages its first show, Opera on the Down L.O.W. With 23 performers, it includes famous scenes from nine classics, including
La Bohème and Carmen. The first performance was at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village (5400 West 75th Street, 913-432-5573).
