The Psychical Research Society of Kansas City predicts that you will have a killer time at its Fall Psychic Fair, held at the MCC Exhibit Hall (Interstate 435 and Front Street). The nonprofit organization, which is the largest of its kind in the Midwest, holds fairs twice a year to raise dough to pay for crystal balls, flowing velvet capes and various charms and talismans. Just kidding. The money actually funds the PRS library, member-appreciation events and special guest speakers, including this weekend’s expert, Jolene “Jo” Andersen.Andersen, a longtime local and a former mayor of Lawrence, teaches “Spiritual Awakenings” classes, which help people overcome fear. At her lecture, which takes place today at 5 p.m., Andersen offers a history of how she and partner Vic Contoski began teaching the classes, and what it’s like to be a conduit for a spiritual nonentity named “Bill,” who in his former life was Andersen’s mentor. Heavy. The fair continues through Sunday. Admission costs $10 for all three days, and only cash is accepted. The PRS has totally kickass divining powers but lacks an ATM or a credit card machine.
