Producers Produced

Those who doubt Mel Brooks’ contribution to American culture should keep in mind that the venerable comic has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony over the course of his career. That’s right, President Skroob has EGOTed. The Tony, for The Producers, was the most recent (2001) and actually was one of a record-setting 12 awards, including Best
Musical. A traveling production of the show began a run at Starlight Theatre (4600 Starlight Road) on August 23 that ends Sunday.
Local audiences can watch Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom charm and wheedle little old ladies into investing their savings in Springtime for Hitler. The curtain rises at 8 pm. Tickets range from $10 to $85. See kcstarlight.com or call 816-363-7827 for more information. This show is not recommended for children or anyone who doesn’t see the humor in Young
Frankenstein.— Danny Volin
