Repent now, Carl Peterson!: Regarding Greg Hall’s article on Priest Holmes (“It’s a Sin,” March 13): I was disgusted once again at the unnerving statements of Carl Peterson. Who put this brainless fool in charge?
This man has made some tragic mistakes: Dealing with Marty Schottenheimer for all those years and never advancing through the first round of the playoffs; letting player after player who has proven his ability and loyalty and will to win get away (as clearly proven with Rich Gannon’s success). And now Priest — I cannot take anymore of this shit.
I have been a loyal Chiefs fan since the day I moved here! And I have never seen a team whose general manager was more of a moron than Carl Peterson. Priest Holmes carried the Kansas City Chiefs on his back last season, and now we want to tell him that his effort was not good enough for a new contract!
I have only one thing to say to Carl Peterson: SUCK IT UP! Admit that you have made mistakes with the players on this team in the past, and correct it! Start rewarding players on their current performance and not on what you think they will bring to the team. GIVE PRIEST WHAT HE DESERVES.
I would like to see us win a Super Bowl in my lifetime — and I am only 26 — but the way you’re running this team, my daughter may not see it in her lifetime, and she’s only four!

Hall monitor: Greg Hall did a nice job with the recruiting story (“A Rocky Road,” February 20). I live in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and work for The Scranton Times, but was turned on to Greg Hall’s “Off the Couch” column when Bill Simmons plugged it on ESPN’s Page 2.
I read the story on pitch.com and really enjoyed it and felt it was fair. That dope Whitlock doesn’t deserve the airtime he gets. I’m glad to see he wasn’t able to cause a rift between Hall and Coach Severino.

Might makes right: My mother sent me Greg Hall’s “Bear Knuckles” (January 30). I found the article very interesting. However, at the end of it, I would have maybe come to a different conclusion. In Hall’s supposition that Coach Lathrop’s method of instructing team discipline had cowed students from their “brightest years,” I think that maybe it inspired those students to work harder and accept responsibility for the mistakes that they had made.
I guess that’s the difference between people on the left politically and myself. The philosophy that I believe in is that with discipline and hard work, and accepting responsibility for our shortcomings and trying harder next time, we can grow INTO responsible citizens willing to take chances to succeed and not being “cowed” by past failures. I feel that Hall’s assumption merely reflects his negativity to people in general and what they can accomplish when discipline is applied. I guess his assumption just reflects the “Feminization” of his generation, also thanks to that general philosophy espoused by the left’s elitists. Many or all of them would have probably come to that same conclusion that he did in your article. Next time be a “Man” and try to think more positively about people.
I attended Raytown South High, but I did not play basketball. I was a three-year letterman in football. I remember how well liked Coach Lathrop was, even though he was strict with his players. Raytown South won a few state championships during the time I went there.

Plaza blights: So, I’m reading Casey Logan’s story about Ray Braswell (“He’s the Man!” March 6), and I see this sentence:
“Straight ahead, three plain red-brick buildings stand where he wants a stretch of boutique shops and eateries, small businesses unique to the chain-oriented Plaza — ‘but not mom-and-pop stuff, some real professional managed groups,’ he says.”
What in the name of all things good is he thinking? Oh yes, please, let’s put even MORE chain stores in, heaven forbid we actually encourage small business. All that Kansas City needs is another Charbucks, more Fazoli’s and Boston Markets (well, OK, I like some of the stuff at Boston Market, to be honest). When did the Plaza decide to turn into a reproduction of any strip mall in southern Johnson County? (Actually, I’m not being fair there. Some of the strip malls in southern Johnson County have interesting, unique restaurants.)
Maybe it’s just my anti-chain mindset, but why would you prefer to give money to giant companies who don’t really give a rat’s ass about KC rather than local businesses?

The match game: Regarding Danny Alexander’s “Mix and Match” (February 27): I know that reporters have a mission for ethical journalism. However, what about simply responsible journalism? As in taking notes? Or asking questions and then taking down the answer?
Mike Boogie IS NOT Boston bred. He’s never even lived in Boston. Hello? Was Alexander listening or did that just sound better when he was writing? Did he even ask?
