Previewing Kansas State vs Kansas Tickets
There’s nothing better in college sports than rivalries and some of the best college rivalries come between two schools in the same state. The Sunflower Showdown between the University of Kansas and Kansas State University is one of the biggest in-state rivalries in the NCAA. The results in the basketball games have been a little one sided, Kansas holds a 186-91 all-time series lead, but the doesn’t change the intensity between the two schools.
The first meeting of these teams in 2014 comes Saturday, January 11 in Lawrence. KU basketball tickets for the Sunflower Showdown has an average price of $329 and a get-in price of $135 on the secondary market. The average price is just 4.4% above the regular season price for Kansas home games for the 2013-14 season. The Jayhawks haven’t lost a game against the Wildcats in Lawrence since 2006 and have won the past five total games against K-State.
Kansas has taken some tough losses before Big 12 play started, though all four losses came against teams currently ranked in the Top 25. The Jayhawks open Big 12 play on the road against Oklahoma on the 8th, then come home for this game against the Wildcats.
Rivalries seem to hold bigger importance than quality opponents when it comes to Kansas home games in January. The Jayhawks will also host Oklahoma State on the 18th, which is the most expensive Kansas home game of the season. Other home games in January are against Baylor and Iowa State, currently ranked No. 7 and No. 9, respectively in the AP Poll, but both of those games have an average price below the regular season average.
The Kansas-Kansas State rivalry is one of the best in college sports and at a barely above average price, there’s little reason to miss out on one of the biggest games at Allen Fieldhouse this season.
