Last March, Kansas City indie rockers honeybee released their debut EP, saturn return, and on June 6, they’ll drop the follow-up, midtown girl. Ahead of tomorrow’s release of that EP’s first single, “i wish i knew you then,” we’re excited to premiere it here. It’s a jangly and sweet ode to loving someone so much, you wish you could’ve known them even longer.

I Wish I Knew You Then Ig 1Songwriter and lead singer, Makayla Scott, expanded on the single, saying,  “‘i wish i knew you then’ is inspired by all the stories Al [Gliesman, honeybee’s bass player and Scott’s partner] has told me about their life prior to us getting to know each other. Sometimes when we are reminiscing and giggling about the past, I get hit with a big wave of fomo—sad I’ve missed out on so much. But they always say that the timing of our relationship is perfect and that they’re glad we met when we did. Still, I would have loved to hang with kid Al and play horses or dogs or any of the 2000s-era Madden games!”
