Premiere: Gametime is ‘Making Up For Lost Time’ with their forthcoming album

Since their 2024 reunion, Kansas City pop-punk band Gametime has been making up for lost time. The 17 years they’ve been gone have seen the musical landscape change drastically, but it appears the thirst for fast and catchy riffy tunes has never gone out of style. The band’s taking advantage of their newfound revitalization to release their aptly titled The Fresh Start Effect on Friday, October 2.
We’re excited to premiere the band’s latest single, “Making Up For Lost Time,” a song Gametime’s guitarist Kyle Devlin describes as a track that “references our band and how we made a few stumbles in the past. But we’re making it count this time around with fresh perspectives.”

The Pitch: This track feels like it’s a summary of your comeback. Why did Gametime reform?
Kyle Devlin: Absolutely! This song is about our band and about us making another go at it. We reunited originally to finish an old demo for fun. It was a bit of an experiment. We liked the final result so much, we decided to keep going.
How do you create new music after being apart for so long? 
Thankfully, we have a lot of old ideas that we can pull from, so we’re not starting with a blank canvas. But it also helps that I can record the skeleton of a song fairly quickly. We’re better at completing ideas these days.
Where did you record and with whom?
We record the bulk of our new music at our buddy Kyle Ward’s studio, in his house. He’s an incredible engineer and producer.
How does it feel to be putting out your first vinyl release 20 years into being a band?
Equal parts surreal, exciting, and satisfying. I never thought it would happen. I used to balk at the idea of us getting back together. But this timeline has been an interesting one.
Why so many guests on the album?
I think I’ve always been attracted to the idea of getting lots of friends involved. I’m always thinking the more the merrier when it comes to friendship, and I think this is an extension of that. I also think hip hop has influenced me in that way, too. Lots of guest appearances.
