Premiere: Captain Howdy and the Sunset Serenaders’ track ‘Shady Grove’ is a cowpunk romp
In August, Lawrence’s Captain Howdy & the Sunset Serenaders will self-release their debut full-length, Howdy Reigns. The trio of James Barnett (bass, vocals, mixing/mastering), Jon Chappell (drums, vocals), and Keller Welton (guitar, vocals) have been making music for a couple of years now, with several singles and a live recording to their names thus far.
All of those recordings give but a glimpse of what this psychedelic three-piece is capable of, however, because Howdy Reigns swings from psych rock to fuzzed-out country to dancefloor movers in a way that feels like they’re having a party inside your stereo.
If you’ve never had the chance to check out the band, we feel for you, because they’re an energetic blast and a half, but this upcoming LP is as close an encapsulation as to what you’d get without having someone spilling beer on your shoes.
We’re excited to premiere “Shady Grove,” the next single from Howdy Reigns, a full week before it hits streaming services. You can check out that raucous bit of cowpunk below.
