Powerball lotto tickets will save broke-ass Missouri

This is what it’s come to — a Missouri lawmaker introducing a bill that would deduct $2 from Gov. Jay Nixon‘s paycheck each pay period and deposited in “Governor Nixon’s Federal Scratch-Off, Match-Off Fund” to buy Powerball tickets.

St. Charles County Republican Rep. Mark Parkinson is the mastermind behind the bill (H.B. 2131), and lawmakers have even scheduled a hearing for tomorrow. Here’s how it works:

One dollar from the fund will be used to purchase a Powerball lottery ticket each week on behalf of the citizens of the state. Any winnings collected must be deposited into the fund until it exceeds $300 million. At that time, the Governor is authorized to dissolve the fund and transfer the moneys to the General Revenue Fund for the purpose of filling any budget shortfall.
