Portia’s Cafe turns 30

Portia serves a big ol’ burger

A tip o’ the coffee mug to my friend Mike Bushnell, publisher of the Northeast News, for alerting me that one of my favorite diners in the historic Northeast was celebrating its 30-year anniversary. We’ve written about Portia’s Cafe before in Fat City, noting that the exterior of the restaurant looks like a small-town jail — it could be the metal bars on all the windows — even though fans of the joint are completely loyal to Portia Kilburn and don’t care what the place looks like. The food is good…and cheap.
