Voice for the Voiceless is an exhibition of photographs by the Rev. Don Doll at Rockhurst University’s Greenlease Gallery (54th Street and Troost). Doll is a Jesuit whose anthropological focus and humanitarian objectives have resulted in work that bridges the span between art and journalism. He went to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota in 1969 and began documenting the lives and the faces of the nearby Brulé Indians, compiling interviews, photos and background information into a comprehensive contemporary study. Doll’s focus expanded over the course of his career. He lived with and studied the Lakota Sioux people, traveled the Lewis and Clark Trail, and photographed land-mine survivors for the Jesuit Refugee Service. Voice for the Voiceless, a survey of his photos, kicks off with an artist’s talk today at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception at 7.
