Places to eat on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, plus a grown-up pre-New Year’s Eve party at Ça Va: KC’s food and drink events, December 24-30

Monday, December 24

A few options for Christmas eve:

Chef Bryant Wigger is preparing a 5-courses Feast of the Seven Fishes-themed dinner tonight at Tavernonna (106 West 12th Street). For $65 a person (wine pairings are also available), try dishes including squid ink panna cotta, baccala montecato and seared scallops. Make your reservations via Open Table

Another option for Feast of the Seven Fishes is available at Lidia’s Kansas City (101 West 22nd Street). There, diners will enjoy a four-course menu that includes crostini with baccala mantecato; salad of lobster, tomato and Sardinian fregola;  preserved tuna and beans in endive; linguini with clams; risotto of rock shrimp and leeks; and rollatini of sole with spinach, among other dishes. Reserve at the Ambassador Hotel (1111 Grand) offers a three-course menu from 3 to 10 p.m. featuring tomato soup or squash salad, prime rib and white chocolate bread pudding with chi-spiced peach cream sauce or crème brulee with berries for $50 a person, with beverages, including bottles of wine, available for purchase. Ignite Wood-Fired Grill in Lenexa (8721 Ryckert Street) is offering dinner service from 4 to 8 p.m. The buffet is family-style, and includes rotisserie chicken, smoked salmon, bacon-wrapped tenderloin and a variety of sides. The meal is available for $29 for adults and $15 for kids. Drinks, tip and tax are separate. Make reservations via Open Table.

Tuesday, December 25

A personal all-time favorite, Princess Garden (8906 Wornall Road), is open on Christmas Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The owner says reservations are completely booked, but they will be open for walk-ins. 

Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen (1526 Walnut Street) will also be open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., serving its full menu along with Christmas Day specials. 

A few more options: the Capital Grille, American Slang at the Intercontinental, Reserve at the Ambassador, Buca di Beppo, Fogo de Chao and Gram & Dun.

Saturday, December 29

Underdog Wine Company (2984 Gillham Road) is having a free bubbles tasting today from 4 to 7 p.m. Sample varieties of Rose, Blanc de Blanc and Pet-Nat, just in time for New Year’s.

And speaking of New Year’s, Ça Va (4149 Pennsylvania Avenue) is hosting a Saturday night “Grown-up New Year’s Eve” party tonight from 4 p.m. to close. Happy hour will run from 4 to 6 p.m., and there will be other food and drink specials, as well as DJs, the rest of the evening. Reserve your seat with Tock, and walk-ins will also be accepted, but we don’t recommend waiting.
