Pinball Wizard

Do you find musicals too sissy and operas too stuffy? Then perhaps you can benefit from musical theater’s great compromise — the rock opera. Sure, the actors still break into completely unnatural fits of song. But the songs are rock songs! And in the case of The Who’s Tommy, they are songs dreamed up by a superfamous and important British rock band. To see how a deaf, blind and mute kid reaches spiritual enlightenment and becomes a pinball wizard, head to the Barn Players Theatre (6219 Martway, Mission). The show, which opened this weekend, plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through June 14. Tickets cost $12 ($5 for students). Call 913-432-9100 for reservations, or see thebarnplayers.org.

Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: May 30. Continues through June 14, 2008
