The Garcia Project is a tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band, covering all set lists from 1976 – 1995. Their work is so meaningful that THE Andy Logan himself gifted the band three tribute guitars so founder, vocalist, and guitarist Mik Bondy can be as authentic to the true sound as humanly possible. Sliding through Kansas City last week, their sold out show had Deadheads lined around the block. Having chosen THE perfect opener, The Garcia Project came out ready to vibe with the crowd, not perform for us. Their smiles were genuine, the laughter from their on-stage banter was infectious, and THEN there were the seamless, never-ending jams that brought the magic of Jerry Garcia to the forefront of all energy.

Shakedown Strings has quickly become a Kansas City staple to an otherwise already established Deadhead area. Our local favorites opened for The Garcia Project Wednesday night with a cheery and vibrant string rendition of Grateful Dead using nothing but strings. Shakedown Strings is so much more than a band; they are family and their body language, eye contact, and camouflaged cues are proof of how close they are. Whether they’re in our backyard or touring the country, these three really are doing it all.
