Although it’s been nearly two and a half years since Randy Rogers Band’s last recording, it wouldn’t seem right if the red dirt country band didn’t make an annual stop in Kansas City—Friday night, they did just that.

Randy Rogers Band kicked off with the energetic and gritty outlaw cut “Down & Out,” setting the stage for a night of authentic country. Rogers’s badass look immediately captivated the audience, with the frontman noticing them checking him out. He shared he was forced to get glasses and told the doc he’d only comply if they made him look like Waylon Jennings. He played all night in his iconic (prescription) sunnies, with the band blaring their signature blend of deep lyrics and twangy instrumentation.

West Texas Wind, just a year and a half into their journey, made their tour debut in Kansas City that night. Opening for Randy Rogers Band holds a special place in their heart, as they played their first gig as a band at Lost & Found in New Braunfels, owned by Rogers himself.

The band seamlessly brings folklore and honky tonk together as each song tells a different story with a little twang. They set a relaxed, boppy vibe throughout the night. The band’s sound is infectious, with an upbeat, feel-good vibe that still honors the deep roots of Texas country.
