The Current started the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup with a 3-1 win over NWSL rivals, the Houston Dash, in the club’s first-ever international tournament.

After just 55 seconds, forward Temwa Chawinga played a perfect ball from the left that found forward Michelle Cooper who hit the back of the net to give the Current the lead. Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta scored the match-winner in the 68th minute and forward Kristen Hamilton secured the win late on, scoring her 40th goal in all competitions making her the 17th NWSL player to reach the milestone.

The team is back at CPKC Stadium next Saturday, July 27, for its second match in Group C. The Current takes on Liga MX Femenil opposition, C.F. Pachuca, in a 7 P.M. kickoff.
