On Tuesday, March 18, flipturn rocked The Truman with their sold out stop of “The Burnout Days Tour.” This show marks the second time flipturn has played in Kansas City, from RecordBar in 2022 to The Truman in 2025, and turn out just keeps getting better.

I saw flipturn at Hinterland Festival last summer, and their upbeat attitude and sound drew me in as a complete stranger to the band. They may have been a supporting act, but they played as if they were the headlining band. When “The Burnout Days Tour” was announced I was excited to see them in their own right with the spotlight on them.

Tuesday night was the first stop for the opening band Arcy Drive. The indie rock group from New York may have been new to the tour, but not to many of the audience members. With songs “Roll My Stone,” “Louie,” and “Time Shrinks” having over a million streams each, it’s no wonder fans were showing up and showing out for the band. Arcy Drive was a perfect way to start the show. Their high energy stage presence and garage band music style kicked the night off with a bang. I would not be surprised to see them headlining The Truman themselves in the near future. <

Starting with “Juno” from their newest album Burnout Days, flipturn came to show they were so much bigger and better than before. While the sound of this newest album is a bit more mellow, their performance is not. Bassist Madeline Jarman is a sight to see, always dancing to the music with a smile on her face, it’s clear this is someone who was meant to be on the stage.

There was a pretty even split between songs from Burnout Days and past albums, giving a spotlight to the harder sound flipturn has been known for while still showcasing how they’ve grown and changed with this new era. Before “August,” vocalist Dillion Basse shouted out fans from their first KC appearance, saying, “Those of you who were at that first RecordBar, this one’s for you.”

Flipturn is one of those bands that I am going to be bragging about in a few years that I saw them at a small venue on a random Tuesday night. Burnout Days is just their sophomore album and already they have gone from small supporting acts to the name under the headliners on festival line ups. The tight knit and intimate feel of Tuesday night’s show will be a thing of the past for flipturn fans in the coming years.
