Photos: Current season comes to an end after stunning loss to Gotham FC
The Kansas City Current faced off against Gotham FC in the NWSL Playoffs quarter final on Sunday, Nov. 9 at CPKC Stadium. The Current, the number one seeded team in the playoffs, was set to have an easy coast through Gotham FC, the eight seed, to get to the semifinal round of the playoffs. However, Gotham completely flipped the script on the team after the Current got the better of them during their last match on Oct. 11. Combatting the frigid temperatures that filled the Riverside air, neither team could find the back of the net until Jaedyn Shaw scored in the 68th minute of the match. The Current, holding on for dear life, scored a goal from Ellie Wheeler in the sixth minute of added time after the match was about to come to a close. The two teams then headed into overtime where Katie Stengel would score the game winning goal in the 120th minute of the match. The KC Current’s season comes to a close and they set their sights on next season.
