Phocas.net

Taking the past five years into account, Phocas.net founder Todd Comer deserves to be dubbed the single most-hardworking person when it comes to keeping the electronic dance scene thriving. Right now, some could even argue that house music is more dominant in Kansas City than underground hip-hop. To celebrate the five-year anniversary of Phocas, Comer is throwing two parties. On Saturday, DJ Mazi comes in from Chicago to permeate the Grand Emporium with his innovative style and the ability to switch up on a crowd at the drop of a dime. Then, on Friday, December 22, the Knights of Pythias Hall in Independence is the site of the Christmas Massacre (the first honest-to-goodness KC rave since Phallout, back in November ’05), an all-ages jungle-techno-hardcore affair featuring Arsenic and Offtrack, which should provide the perfect fun crusher for your jolly yuletide. But that’s not the only dance event happening on December 22 — check this space in two weeks.
