PETA asks Air Force to reunite Kansas City veteran with his bomb-detecting dog (UPDATED)

Logan Black wants to spend his post-military life with Diego, seen here in Iraq.
Update: PETA has announced that it received a letter from the Air Force confirming that Diego “has concluded his service to the military and is now ready for retirement.” According to PETA, Black is at the top of the list to adopt Diego.
Original post: Last month, we learned about Kansas City army veteran Logan Black’s effort to be reunited with his bomb-detecting dog, Diego. The two served together in Fallujah in 2006 and 2007. Black suffers from PTSD from his time in combat zones, and he says Diego, a yellow lab, suffers from the same affliction.
“When I had him, his PTSD would manifest in uncontrollable shakes and hyperventillating,” Black told FOX 4 in June.
A Facebook group has been launched to help convince the Air Force to reunite the two. Now PETA is getting behind the effort. In a press release, the organization says that Diego, almost 8, is still working on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. The group sent a letter to Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley asking him to let Diego retire and rejoin Black in Kansas City.
PETA has set up a form letter that supporters can send Donley.
