PERIOD COSTUME ALERT

The Jazz Age returns to Shawnee tonight as something between a museum piece and a lowdown speakeasy. At the Town Hall, the Shawnee Town Museum (11600 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, Kansas) presents the Rhythm Room Quartet and revisits the jitter-flappin’ sounds and stories of Prohibition and the Lost Generation. Find some 1920s stripes or tassels to wear, and come prepared to sing along and dance until you’re ready to dip your feet in a bathtub full of bootleg gin. Among the musicians swinging at tonight’s free event, which starts at 7: trombonist Howard Abernathy, keyboardist Dave Baker, tin bass player Dick Krueger, and band leader and banjo player Jerry Uppman. See shawneetown.org or call 913-248-2360 for details.
