Out of Time & Space Astrology

Cancer/Leo time … oscillation between self-awareness and our need for relationship.

Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 22): When you possess the type of self-assuredness that you do, you must become aware of your impact on the rest of us. Your confidence can amount to arrogant and cockiness in the male and the essential bitchiness or snobbishness in the women. Bemoan, but accept, gracious lioness that your behaviors, while judged when you perform them, are usually encouraged in the lion. Continue to recognize your inspiration is what illuminates what is possible in our relationships with you. Yes, it may seem that everyone’s demanding your attention at once, because we are. Reframe it this way: Could it be we want your attention because we love you and love being around you? Drop your heart’s guard. Watch sarcasm and superior attitude dissipate. Love given freely wins the day.

Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): The Chinese Book of Changes, a.k.a. the I Ching, has a verse called “Darkening of the Light” (36, for those who follow this divinatory system). The brilliance has been submerged under the Earth. Many times you must act as if you know less than you do. Your challenge will be to know what you know, but how you allow those “crazier” ideas to take root. In essence, you are being pushed to think outside the box. So, to demonstrate your brightness in the wrong circle will come off as the proverbial “know it all.” Say what you know in a disguised manner. Those who are secure in their knowledge will welcome your “outlandish” ideas because they realize the intent in which they are offered … you just want to be useful like girls just wanna have fun … (Read Pisces’ message, too.)

Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius (chorus “harmony and understanding”), as the song goes. Your not-impossible mission, should you decide to accept it, is to be a guru of philosophy, ethics and to restore balance between natural laws and how we live. You are to become the arbiter of profound truths. Through the use of your insightful and inquisitive mind, you were born to integrate what you sense intuitively to what you can rationally prove. And, that’s why we will need your scale-bearer ways in the Aquarian Age. You add value by having a healthy interest in what makes us different while constantly trying to bridge the gaps. You are needed as Spiritual Mediator. We are leaving the Pisces Age based on original sin, belief and faith to enter into an age of knowledge, community activism and acceptance. Child of Venus, guide us to see the broader realities of how much more similar our fundamental needs are.

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising* (Oct 23-Nov 21): Your immense need for privacy comes from lord of the underworld, Pluto. This dwarf planet gives you the very real ability to behave like a heat-seeking missile sensing other people’s weaknesses. Mars aids your complex life because he pushes you to act on defending your vulnerabilities through finding out where others can be hurt first, a kind of knowing where the proverbial bodies are buried. From now until August 3, you will possess a dissonance between acting on what you know to protect you and others and keeping potentially harmful secrets. Before you decide what to do (or not), imagine what you would want most people to know about you. If you cannot act with integrity to your deeper and analyzed motivations (with nothing to hide), do nothing. And it will be difficult because you like control, again thanks to Pluto (who in mythology had an invisibility helmet that he used whenever he came out of the underworld). Talk about control freak, not wanting to be seen, but desiring to see what everyone else is up to, well, there are some voyeuristic tendencies your ruler gives to you, too …

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising* (Nov 22-Dec 19): Concentrated fire sign Leo blazes your heart with aspirations to become the best human being possible. Your humorous insight into the foibles of human nature would be one aspect worth noting. This time of year helps you take the long view on your life. When tempered, you have stamina for days. You are indefatigable. These hot days charge you up. Know that cantankerous Mars heats up your 7th house of peer relationships. Folk do not suffer any foolishness from you. Continue to exaggerate the story to the point of not being able to see the facts and you’ll get called on it. That’s why in your heart, you must know your worth. You see, you usually stretch truths out of proportion when you feel insecure. You feel insecure when you stop aspiring, stop believing in something or someone higher, and that includes yourself. Leo time reminds you of your best self (and so do Leo natives).

Capricorn/Capricorn Rising* (Dec 21-Jan 19): Secretly, you are not impressed by outward shows of power and status. To be on the VIP list without the red-carpet cameras suits you just fine. But you do moisten when you observe power being used in a subtle manner. For example, the executive assistant who keeps the boss’s schedule or the underdog who knows more than they let on at the precise moment when needed. Sure, you can get temporarily caught up by the appearance of people, places and things, but they must be worked for, not simply given. It is not the role played, it is the essential motivation of character that leaves lasting legacies. To mistake form for content incites the karmic gods to weep profusely for you, and fairy godmothers cry out for inspiration. Midsummer demands a willing spirit of humble service, not a counting of the costs or a ‘what’s in it for me’ mentality.

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising*(Jan 20-Feb 19): Coming up on your half birthday means you are reflecting on those around you. Are they supportive or judgmental? Have you been intractable and rebellious or open to suggestion? Have you ever thought (well, of course, you have, you think all the damn time) that we are supportive in direct proportion to your receptive attitude? Face it, you can be as cold as the time of year in which you were born. With your freewheeling ruler, Uranus, blazing new trails in pioneering Aries, heat looks better on you. A hot head beats an overly detached heart. I say overly detached, as in selfish isolationist, xenophobic behavior on your part. Your extremely large brain has the capacity to demonstrate a marked disdain for us lesser beings. Yet, Leos (as Lion) roar. So, take a page from their book: roar, sing, dance, behave like flowers in the breeze getting attention for their beauty and fragrance. Passion rules your relationships, especially when reason has been fully explored. No is not an answer to take from no one.

Pisces/Pisces Rising (Feb 18-Mar 20): Thomas Moore, in Care of the Soul, states that “paranoid knowing satisfies the masochist who takes delight in being hurt. It is typical in many kinds of masochism to assume the role of innocent child. This may be an apotropiac act. Apotropiac refers to magical and ritual ways of warding off evil.” Catholics make air crosses, pagans throw salt over their shoulders, some even cross their fingers as they pass graveyards. You live (and your opposing/complementary sign Virgo) on the axis of sadomasochism. Whether it’s a heavenly god, dominatrix or parent, someone’s playing on your guilt, shaming you into being apologetic for elusive crimes (or heaven forbid, sins). No one is fully innocent, and hell (yes, pun intended), once reincarnation chimes as relevant, then you’d have to look at everyone’s childhood differently.

Aries/Aries Rising* (Mar 21-Apr 19): It’s been said that March comes in like a lamb. And there is your modus operandi, hiding in plain sight. Your mask is one of certain and brave self-assertion. Even if you are a handsome female (a backward slap, if there ever was one), you sense when the alleged opposition has been courted by a feline crayon (a.k.a. paper tiger). You eat the fearful before breakfast like the proverbial early bird gets the worm. When you doubt that we do not like your intensity, you start to lose your chutzpah. We all lose. You see, you are supposed to leave us fired up to be more of our authentic selves. Not controlling, fearful and defensive, but an open expression of life force like bamboo shoots, able to bend, but not breaking.

Taurus/Taurus Rising* (Apr 20-May 21): We probably decided to make this agreement of my introducing you to your love of your life, many lives ago. And our souls are so old, there is no responsibility on either part. (Talk about a perfect lawyer’s disclaimer clause.) I want you to understand your innate worth and how it is reflected in those who surround you. All I know for you is do not offer up your pure feeling self for anyone. You wait. The faster you hook up, the faster they can leave. You have too much to give to those who know what it is worth. If s/he ain’t value added, then, damn it, take another shower and clean off the BS. Even in your given (and sometimes physically needy state), you are an open and honest soul. It is only when you think your ego is the best part of you that you make mistakes.

Gemini/Gemini Rising* (May 21-Jun 20): You possess so many ideas all the time, you can begin to believe you’re losing your mind. With your guardian ruler, Mercury, moving through the sign of Leo, your mental state seems to be on fire. Warning, though: the more you say and offer up your observations, the more you will be challenged to prove or collaborate them. I don’t suggest silence, just a choosing your battles more carefully. Is it life or death? Probably not. Adopt a ‘wait and see’ attitude. Sure, there is less drama with more mental reserve, but not all pots need stirring or watching. If you must do something about what you’re thinking, keep improvising to a minimum. Plans are not only for those you perceive as dullards.

Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): A close Cancerian friend of mine is infusing vodka with strawberries, the second mixture is with mangoes and peaches. What she told me was that strawberries offer up their flavors faster than mangoes and peaches. Before I thought, I said, “Oh, strawberries must be sluts!” Now, under a reflective frame of mind, I’d say, “Strawberries are in control of their sexual expression, and no judgment necessary.” Because you can see places where intimacy thrives before the rest of us, you can easily be taken for granted, like the flavors of the strawberry. Watch out for others expecting you to be an easy touch, malleable and thought of as weak. Stand your ground, behave more like the vodka: clear, strong and intoxicating. Maybe it is time we adjust to your direction.
