Out of Time & Space Astrology

Sufi saying, “Pray to Allah, but tie up your camel.” First read Capricorn.

Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 21): Once every 9 months lovely and loving Venus travels close to the Sun. This time is now. When harmonious and joyous energies hang out with the center of our solar system, stopping to smell the roses is advised. Leave your stress for another day. As someone who was born to learn courage, it is often the courage to be your playful and relaxed self that is the challenge. When insecure, you can be a major control freak. The more you realize that you’re being judged in direct proportion to how much you internally judge others, the less self-conscious you become. Kind thoughts lead to kind actions, randomly displayed. You think the Sun can actually control where her rays land? Why would the Sun want to do that? The VIP’s exist in everyone’s mirror. A behind the scene support of someone else’s vision will be rewarded in early fall, of course, if your motivation is not for reward. Those spiritual truths are paradoxical that way…

Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): Divine discontent is a feeling condition where you have everything you desire, but still cannot feel satisfied. Your mind has to learn to choose life. Even as your soul feels tied to the rigors of the imperfect physical reality, you must decide to see your life as whole. Perfection is an inner state, not an outward condition. Coming up on your birthday means it is time to retreat into reflection on the past year, sensing intuitively what would satisfy you. Acceptance becomes the challenge, not tolerating or long suffering through a series of ‘shoulds’. Use this week to examine your deeper motivations for surrender, passion and love. Whose unexamined values have you taken within you? Time to take another look at your psychological underpinnings, particularly the self-destructive and self-critical ones.

Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): Keeping an eye on the other guy’s package of goodies, huh? You know how to impress anyone you’ve got a mind to, it is your famous indecision that has opportunities pass you by. If you cannot get by with a little help from your friends, your self-worth is beyond what this column is meant to do. With some effort, you can magnetize prosperity imagined through your mind’s eye. One warning: those who think they have some authority over you will be aggressive in proportion to how much you feel you are unworthy of a better life. Your inner judge needs to recluse himself from anything (or anyone) in your life that’s not centered upon more joy. Maybe, just maybe, your scales of justice are to tilt towards the self-determined, for now. After all, your relationships reflect the amount of self-awareness you display.

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising* (Oct 23-Nov 21): Private versus public self, these two parts of yourself might as well be in a boxing ring or a mixed martial arts competition, psychologically speaking. You want to act on your well honed instincts, but you do not desire anyone to see what (or whom) you really want. You hide it, but you care what close others think. The other self seeks to speak with incredible influence and be thought of as “deep.” This dilemma can be solved. Do you want love or control? Do you want to be feared or respected? Last week, I asked you about releasing one pet philosophical belief. The past attempts to haunt you through images of an abandoning or domineering parent. Their voice spanks your thoughts as if your brains were your buttocks, and they possessed a leather belt. You are more than the sum of your selves, this is where your soul comes in a plots a path you’ve scarcely allowed your mind to consider.

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising* (Nov 22-Dec 19): Arguing as a light inducer. That goes a very long way to explain how you keep certain truths going … gotta shake it off. We talked last week (oh, you don’t continue to expect me to re-create this slightly worn format every week, right?). Fundamental truths serve a selected few. Like I knew that President Obama would govern like he was Bill Cosby’s nephew (too conciliatory being in love with his idealistic white side that still shoots off firecrackers on July 4), I realize you must challenge the BS you perceive all around you. It is mostly all about taking the moral high ground be that Gandhi and the British, King and America’s South or our President and those who drink from tea cups. You are the zodiac’s captain of the debate team. However, debating requires respect and at least the appearance of equality, something sorely lacking from our political discourse. What I ask from you is that you don’t trample on those who love you from a self-righteous high horse. Get off your power animal (read: trip) and circulate down below with (or to?) us.

Capricorn/Capricorn Rising* (Dec 21-Jan 19): You are the embodiment of this Sufi saying. You are religious in the original meaning of the word, from Latin religare which loosely means to tie, bind or fasten. Your consciousness must not be tied pious behaviors, however. Instead be your imminently cautious self as well as being deeply aware of something higher, divine or refined … that also exists within you. Even if you are one of the fastest growing segments of spirituality (atheists), you have the investigatory mind to at least to have searched out why you do NOT believe in God. (Frankly, I’d rather talk with atheists or agnostics because they tend know more than those who sit in the pews.) For you it is all about your standing your ground (tying up the camel) while you look to your own private Idaho of the heavens for answers. Waiting can be an easier feat when you know it is not in vain and you know how to enjoy life’s little pleasures along the way. So what you have some passively aggressive types sweating your swagger. Protect yourself in all acts of loving. Oh, and that includes your heart.

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising*(Jan 20-Feb 19): Coming down to earth with a resounding thud, that’s your inner reality. Due to be the zodiac’s over-thinker (competing with Gemini, of course), you have been behaving like Icarus of old myths, flying too close to the water lest your wings get heavy or too close to the Sun and the wax melts. Sure, your soul through your mind wants to be released from this earthly prison. And, you can. You must know how to relax without the benefit of any outside substance, or at least the dependence on the outside substance. Know why you are motivated to smoke, drink, sex, eat, etc. Before you take that hit, monitor what you’re thinking, and more importantly what you are feeling. Feelings are not inconvenient speed bumps on the road of life. Feelings are your inner states of being that tell you when to go on life’s stage and when to stay hidden in shadows (ask Sugarland’s tour manager, Hellen Rollens who intuitively kept the band off the stage in Indianapolis, thus saving their “Stuck Like Glue” singing lives.) It is that kind of expected adherence to your inner voice that ‘saves’ you, be you imaginary Icarus, Ms. Rollens or just ordinary Jane or Joe with extraordinary senses …

Pisces/Pisces Rising (Feb 18-Mar 20): Given my ancestral history, you’d think I wouldn’t like Ms. Spears song “I’m a Slave for You” (or any song with slave in the lyrics). I realize it’s an older tune, but my point is being able to rise above certain ‘wounding’ words and/or concepts. You can carry your past as a badge of honor like an aging flight attendant that wears too much make up and who refuses to exercise. It is not the physical body that I see when I say “you look good.” It is your emotional body, you know, the one that combines your feelings with how you act or emote (energy in motion) into the world for all of us to see. With assertive and warrior Mars simmering for a row in Cancer, you have the best astrological placements to be a slave to any pleasure you like. Just know who’s your master (or daddy), OK? Hint: It should be you. Also, know when to leave the party, relationship, friendship or contract. Even if you must know quietly and inside yourself before you make the move for us to see. Another Sufi saying, “die before you die.” We’ll talk more about this one next week.

Aries/Aries Rising* (Mar 21-Apr 19): I don’t know what to tell you. “Straighten up and fly right” seems too, well, too heterosexist and conservative. “How’s it hangin’?” seems too, well, too Old Boys’ Club. “What’s up my bitches?!” seems too, well, too Real Housewives of whatever gawd-forsaken city Bravo is shamelessly parading at this hour (what are they, like the 15 million Law & Order or CSI shows?). I know I won’t get ghetto fabulous on you because there is no way I’m going to talk about words that rhyme with gold digger. Now, in person I can love you a very, very long time, that is, we can talk about any and all taboo words, concepts and subjects. All I do know to tell you: Without your confident ways, we get remakes, garbage and superficial politically correct behaviors. You are at a low point in your creative fire. Tend to your home, literally and metaphorically. Your soul itches to innovate, but you’ll end up simply refrying the old and tired beans instead of making a new recipe. You’ll come up with those pithy saying by the end of summer, I guarantee it.

Taurus/Taurus Rising* (Apr 20-May 21): You won’t admit it, but you do care how you appear to others. Your reputation matters. You can be the proverbial shock jock or the wanton woman, as long as you’re initiating and controlling the narrative of what your chosen community thinks of you. There is more unexpected secrets bubbling up from your subconscious like it was the loosening of the Earth’s mantle. Face a truth, your usual repressive mechanism has become defective. You can no longer hold down those seemingly impolite thoughts from creeping into your awareness, nor should you. Live from instincts you have ignored. If your motivation is to goad us into growth, then have at it. Tend to accentuating and displaying your assets. But, if you are in dire need of too much attention, you’ll get it, and be remembered as the one who couldn’t get enough. The best way to get invited back or in is to know when you’ve consumed what (or whom) you can handle.

Gemini/Gemini Rising* (May 21-Jun 20): When in difficult familiar situations have you learned to live your life as if you were a smart phone that’s been placed on mute? All that is thought cannot be spoken. It is an obvious observation, but often what’s on the surface is ignored or thought of as “common sense.” What is common for one person or group may not be for another. You were born to express the mental dexterity to have the conversations that get us to agree upon what is obvious or common. Stop talking, then we all have challenges in getting along. So the mute button operates well when you’ve talked and you think no one has listened to you. I’d say use your potentially exceptional powers of observation to perceive what’s not being said. Silence has more of the answers for you, be it yours or someone else’s.

Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): Escapism can be a beautiful thing. Whether it is from the Nanny State to the Daddy State, our Cancerian Nation (born July 4, 1776 – yes, countries have birth charts) doesn’t want to admit to how we want to be taken care of and where we want to be left alone. Don’t tell us what to eat (FLOTUS), but keep your hands off my Medicare! You represent the micro picture of what’s going on in this country. The more you perceive everyone as your extended family, the happier we all will be. I’m not suggesting you go around with your heart bleeding (did you read Capricorn’s message?), only that you open to the thought that we are indeed the world. And, gawd forbid, more environmental disasters until we learn this basic truth. It begin with a feeling; it begins through and with you.

*The Rising Sign a.k.a. Ascendant represents your approach to life and the mask you wear. Read that sign as well to get additional information on what’s in store this week.
