Flipping the Patriarchal Monotheistic Script. Grateful for One Goddess (Chaka, last week). This week I invoke the pagan Horned One with multiple male singing favorites.

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising* (Nov 22-Dec 19): Easy to show gratitude to none other than Jimi Hendrix, left-handed Sagittarius. Wind, desert, Kansas, Voodoo and my newest favorite over the last five years: Are You Experienced? It can be an easy time. All you are called to do is to temper your appetites. You’ve got to accept that you’re more likely to behave in an excessive manner when you’re feeling vulnerable and uninspired. Keep those candles lit. Buy an extra set of icicle lights. It is important to put on that clown or happy face to greet those folks devoid of spirit. Forget the murkily mixed origins of Christmas; instead focus upon the spirit of goodwill (as naïve as that may sound). It is out of the innocent that the fool Percival located the holy grail. What or who represents your sacred vessel? Are you experienced in finding it? Sags Will Downing and Frank Sinatra (artists never really die) have mad singing skills.

Capricorn/Capricorn Rising* (Dec 21-Jan 19): Until December 20, you have Ms. Pleasure Seeking Venus willing to share her wiles with austerity-conscious Saturn. You see, they are forming a “mutual reception” between Love Goddess in Capricorn and Mr. Economy in Libra. She can dole out her considerable gifts in her own sign, and he can, too. “Having your cake and eating it, too” is usually ill-advised. However, if there’s ever a time for you to become a better pastry chef and still have an appetite, it is now. One warning (of course, you know there’s a catch): You must be brutally honest with yourself regarding your emotional needs. Stay in your own heated kitchen through owning up to what you’ve been accusing others of doing to you. If you’ve allowed it out of fear, Venus will leave your delicious cake, which took you so long to bake, out in the rain. Through accepting the wisdom of your ruling planet (Saturn) and his methods, you can charm anyone you have a mind to. Favorite Cap male singer is John Legend.

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising*(Jan 20-Feb 19): Aquarian males stop going to other folks’ houses (particularly a potential lover) empty-handed. Even if you’re giving good love, your pinga is attached to your body; it’s not like you can leave it in the glove compartment. At least bring the condoms – “no glove, no love.” For you female star children, do not give too much away. Wow, the extremes your gender does – the codependency in the female and the isolated “lone wolf” in the male. Yes, that’s a generalization because I’ve met the opposite as well. The point? Use your considerable objectivity to determine what’s needed, and then decide whether you want to offer it. Leave your condescension in the glove compartment, only to be taken out when others choose to stay blissfully ignorant. Anthony Hamilton and Darren Criss (Glee) work favors for you as star child, a.k.a. the Water Bearer.

Pisces/Pisces Rising (Feb 18-Mar 20): You come in for this weekly message at your energetic high. Call the shots, even when you feel you must do this from behind the scenes. Not only know which side your bread is buttered on, but know how to obtain your chosen lubrication. It’s infinitely more than “loving the one your with”; it’s the wanting to love the one you’re with. Sometimes that means doing the dishes even when you do not feel like doing the dishes. These heightened energies indicate you have the know-how to get out of doing the dishes. Realize I’m not talking about housework here, right? I’m merely suggesting the nature of how you use your personal power. And for this week, a bit of compassion, applied tenderly, can make you a better human being than you are already. And sometimes compassion means to NOT do the dishes when others have been slacking off too much or you’ve been compulsively doing them. Favorite Pisces singers are Al Jarreau and Robin Thicke. Must send a shout-out to my main man, Quincy Jones.

Aries/Aries Rising* (Mar 21-Apr 19): There’s a slow revolution occurring. It is as if you sense the spring at late fall. No need to rush any physical development. To rush would be like an adolescent wanting to skip the awkwardness of puberty. All things being equal, all mature at their own pace. And that is what you choose to forget, each person’s relative growth. The planet of communication and perception (Mercury) retraces his steps in philosophically and lofty Sagittarius. Use your optimist attitude sparingly. You could easily deny certain facts that do not fit into how you want your vision to be. To ignore practical realities because they are less glamorous would be folly. Spring always follows winter, and it will not be rushed into existence. Neither will your long-term goals. In essence, no shortcuts are allowed in action, but please visualize them creatively inside your mind. I’ve been known to enjoy Aries Teddy Pendergrass.

Taurus/Taurus Rising* (Apr 20-May 21): Your need to give and receive love is being tested. Your need to accept what someone offers, while questioning their motives, is very necessary. When you look closely, you will see that your past lovers bear a striking resemblance to your current one. Check for similar patterns, no dismissing these words out of hand. Last week I wrote you felt if love were everlasting, then should not we accept you as you are. We must grow. Aiding in your soul’s evolution is none other than Pluto moving along with Venus in Capricorn. Current social values state that transformation is overrated; instant gratification beats all. Pluto in his role as Lord of the Underworld categorically demands an emotional depth from Love Goddess Venus. Compatible Capricorn wants to act as your ethical guide into a world of psychological pair bonds. Soul to soul, heart to heart, where your love never parts. That’s what will feel good, losing egocentric control to see your other’s deeper nature. Nicholas Ashford and Luther Vandross rule as my favorite Taurus male singers. I like Bono, too, but more for his humanitarian side and lyrics than his vocals.

Gemini/Gemini Rising* (May 21-Jun 20): Late fall tests your patience. Mercury in retrograde tests your patience. Slow thinkers test your patience. Got lots of exams, eh? To act pettily will be remembered later. To take without knowing the value of what you’ve grabbed will come back to haunt you. To think less of those who have less mental strength damages your character. In short, the planets want you to take a long, intuitive big-picture view. Make like an eagle, eight times the sight of us and bifocal. Soar over the little stings and barbs. Flight, thicker skin … and know when to hibernate. Of course, I’m not talking about an actual hibernation. Symbolically speaking, just hide in plain sight. Not all you think can be verbalized, and certainly not now. If you must speak to others, use stories, parables and third-person cautionary tales. Favorite male singers include Prince, Lenny Kravitz and Maxwell.

Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): Change your heart look around you/change your heart/it will astound you/I need your lovin’/Like the sunshine/And Everybody’s gotta learn sometimes, profound lyrics by Cancerian Beck. These lyrics speak to the older parts of our collective souls. It’s a younger soul that runs around fearing death through extending life, writing long complicated treatises on this or that. Through just remembering these lyrics, you can get through the perfectionism of idyllic family gatherings that comes during this time of year. Do not let anyone get the best of you, especially when their soul travels on the short bus. Your evolution rests on the acknowledgment of otherworldly support hovering all around you. Open your heart to it … astounding and tenacious, just as you are.

Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 22): Read Cancer’s message. Although Beck is not a Leo, all that talk of heart and sunshine made me think of you. At your best, you can possess an exceptional heart and shine in perpetuity. At your worst, you dominate everything and everyone through rampant insecurities that you won’t acknowledge (what I sometimes call “hanging a cold heart on a warm sleeve.” In other words, you want to “hug it out” but fear taking the first step toward opening up. Fortunately, your soul’s karma serves you an extra helping of joy with two sides of happiness and sincerity. Release the judgmental family members. You are not responsible for monitoring everyone’s evolution. Just be the person you want others to emulate. Deeds last a lot longer than money or presents. Although not a singer, I enjoy Leo (saxophonist) David Sanborn. Tony Bennett is smooth.

Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): Your mind works toward predating Adam’s Eve. It has been told that Lilith was his first wife. She did not submit to him and his dictates, so Eve was created. Don’t want to discuss what is truth. Want to talk submission. Use your ample mental faculties to discern precisely where you “go along to get along” versus where you consciously dance to your own beats. It will not be easy at first, but that’s exactly why Mercury does an about-face three times a year for three weeks. Maybe that’s why the “third time’s the charm.” Your ruler does control synchronicity, those alleged coincidences. If you allow your mind to be controlled by lesser and domineering souls, you get stuck in unhealthy patterns. Nile Rodgers of Chic is a favorite musician of mine.

Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): Your effect on others is palpable. You possess incredible charisma to persuade, cajole and influence. Air signs are charged with the responsibility to tell the truth when in conflict (which you like to avoid). The phrase “white lie” was designed to demonstrate the many ways in which we tell relatively small lies in order to spare someone’s feelings. It is the reason that you’d tell the lie that matters. And this time of year, with the number of social engagements stacking up, social lies multiply like flies on caca. During a Mercury retrograde (until December 13), and one that is prone to exaggeration being in Sagittarius and your 3rd house of speech, syntax and perception of 3-D reality, you are especially prone to misrepresentation. Instead, be seen with integrity and common sense; let the others decide for themselves on their virtues. Try not to initiate any peacemaking missions. Favorite Libran male singers are Ray Charles and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising* (Oct 23-Nov 21): Mercury has control over your shared resources with others. Your ideas about commitment and understanding how life’s mysteries work (history, religion, psychology, archeology, etc.). When retrograde in next-door neighbor Sagittarius, your life becomes centered on what gives you the most value, how you can perceive from an inspirational (even a spiritual) place where you fit in this large universe. Shift your attention away from what would bring you the most outward success (can you say most “reality TV”?) to why you’d want your success to be seen by others. My suggestion is to concentrate on the best of human nature, while being very aware of the darkest of our nature. Oh, and if you have anything to prove, may it be to yourself. Scorpio Matthew Morrison (Glee) has a voice I enjoy (most times).
