Oskar Blues’ beer is now available in Kansas

Starting this week, you’ll be able to find Oskar Blues’ beer in liquor stores and bars in Kansas. The Longmont, Colorado, craft-beer maker announced earlier this month that it was bringing its beers to the Sunflower State. That day is here.

Rimann’s Prairie Village store (3917 Prairie Lane, 913-236-5311) will host a tasting of the full lineup Tuesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Next door, Tavern in the Village (3901 Prairie Lane, Prairie Village, 913-529-2229) will also be serving Dale’s Pale Ale, the brewery’s flagship beer and the only Oskar Blues brew on tap (to start) in Kansas.

Barley’s at I-435 and Midland Drive started tapping Oskar Blues around lunchtime on Monday. 

That’s not all. An Oskar Blues “market blitz” is scheduled for the week of March 24, according to a press release. So stay tuned for that.

Oskar Blues, which started in 1997, was the first American craft brewery to sell its beer in cans. And that’s how Kansans will get their initial tastes of Oskar Blues’ full lineup. The rest of the beers will follow on tap in mid- or late April. 

Here’s the list of Oskar Blues’ year-round beers:

Dale’s Pale Ale: an American Pale Ale (6.5 percent ABV, 65 IBUs)

Mama’s Little Yella Pils: a Bohemian-style pilsner (5.3 percent ABV, 35 IBUs)

Old Chub Scotch Ale: as the name says, a Scotch ale (8 percent ABV)

G’Knight Imperial Red IPA: a dry-hopped double-red IPA (8.7 percent ABV, 60 IBUs)

Deviant Dale’s IPA: an American-style India Pale Ale (8 percent ABV, 85 IBUs).

No mention of Ten FIDY, Oskar Blues’ Russian imperial stout (10.5 percent ABV, 98 IBUs) seasonal, which has a “world class” Beer Advocate rating.

Oskar Blues is also planning to distribute its beers in Missouri in 2014.
