Oh, that smell

Bacon has enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent years despite or, more likely, because of its reputation as a fat-riddled, salt-laden, nutrition-deficient cut of meat. But let’s not think about all that. Let’s celebrate bacon in an effort to help disabled children and adults rehabilitate from their injuries and find employment — something brought about by the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, host of today’s second annual Bacon-Fest: the Other Fundraiser at 75th Street and Wornall. Fifteen local restaurants will be cooking up their own bacon recipes, and attendees can compete in a bacon-eating contest and perhaps become the new bacon king and queen. Tickets cost $40 and include all food and drink, plus a T-shirt. Call 816-751-7901 or go to baconfestkc.com for more information.— Danny Volin
