Off With Their Heads at the Jackpot

Off With Their Heads is a band I’ve been a fan of for a few years, though I’ve had a devil of time seeing them. The last time they stopped in Kansas City, they played at Club Mustache right before Christmas. I was swamped by the day job and unable to make the trek to Kansas City. This made their Friday night set at the Jackpot all the more sweet. I was able to stroll downtown and rock out and still make it home before midnight.
OWTH’s set imbued the songs off the band’s new album, In Desolation, with a passion and vigor that seemed sorely lacking on the record. During the band’s all-too-brief set (40 minutes, maybe), frontman Ryan Young belted out the lyrics like he had something to prove. The intensity of his delivery on From the Bottom‘s “I Am You” showed that while they may have plateaued in the studio, they are a live band not to be trifled with.
