odd wheels

Car-show enthusiasts are usually relegated to gatherings at the convention hall or to rockabilly nights at the drive-in. But for the past four years, Kansas City gearheads have been treated to an unusual car show on the grounds of the Kansas City Art Institute (45th Street and Oak). At the Art of the Car Concours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., vehicles are on display that blend automotive technology and art. Some notable autos at this year’s Concours are President Woodrow Wilson’s 1919 Pierce-Arrow limo, Bobby Darin’s one-of-a-kind Dream Car, and a car-plane hybrid called The Fascination. Tickets are $12 per person at the gate. Purchase in advance at artofthecarconcours.com for $2 off. Children 10 and under get in free. — Matt Mitchell
