  • Ryan Brazeal is ready to introduce KC to his cooking.

The first chapter for Novel begins today. Chef Ryan Brazeal’s restaurant opens its doors to the public for the first time in the space at 815 West 17th Street, which was last occupied by Lill’s on 17th. (You can find former LIll’s chef Carmen Cabia at the takeout window of the silver food trailer El Tenedor.)

Back in February, Charles Ferruzza talked to Brazeal about his plans for the new American restaurant. Novel has had plenty of hype before opening with Momofuku chef David Chang tweeting a message of support in June to his former sous chef. The initial menu is online with a Crispy Egg starter (tripe, chipotle and bacon hush puppies) and Country Rib Chop (spicy pork belly ragu, rice Spaetzle, and baby bok choy). Novel takes reservations and walk-ins. It’s open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The phone number is 816-221-0785.
