Notable badass Scott Kelly, NASA astronaut who spent one year in space, to give free lecture in KC this fall

There are those who think they are tough for hanging a pair of truck nutz from the backs of their pickups, but then there are genuine badass explorers like astronaut Scott Kelly. Kelly recently spent 340 days on the International Space Station, and in the process set an American record for the total accumulated number of days in space at 382 (he has been on a total of four space flights). His (near) year spent in space, among other goals, was to measure the effects of long-term weightlessness on the body. He returned to earth two inches taller (gravity eventually returned him to his normal height) and experienced severe pain for weeks after his return.

Kelly is coming to Kansas City this fall for a free lecture at Unity Temple on the Plaza, sponsored by Linda Hall Library donors Mike and Millie Brown. The event’s press release details the lecture as follows:

“With life lessons and personal stories that reveal unique and valuable advice on pushing one’s own limits, to insight on the leadership and teamwork required in such demanding conditions, and the challenges — such as long-term deprivation from loved ones and Planet Earth — Captain Kelly reflects on the choices and life events that paved his journey’s path and brings audiences to the edge of their seats as he delivers a truly one-of-a-kind experience.”

Tickets are available starting today (limit 4). Register for the event here
