It might be hard to imagine now, with clubs like the Riot Room regularly booking extreme bills and even larger venues like the Uptown Theater hosting ghouls like Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom, but in the ’80s, promoters were terrified of black metal, grindcore, death metal — basically anything more exotic than Metallica cover bands. KC’s Order From Chaos sounded like Venom and Bathory back when overseas metal acts were like mythological creatures, rumored to be unfathomably evil but impossible to hear — unless you were willing to pay hefty prices for import albums with no way of hearing them first.
