New Secondhand

It’s hard to know a good business investment these days. As of this writing, even successful chain restaurants in the Power & Light District are shutting down to renovate or to open as different chains that might attract more customers. But if there’s one thing we’d consider a safe bet, and actually necessary, it’s a good thrift store. The ones that know their business don’t just cater to your average fashion-conscious hipster doofus; they provide low-cost essentials to struggling families. And if a store can unite such a broad spectrum of humanity, so much the better. Which is why you should support opening day for the Silver Lining Thrift Shop at 9537 West 87th Street in Overland Park. The shop will offer new and slightly used clothing as well as household items and furniture. El Centro, a family service agency in Kansas City that provides social, educational and economic opportunities, runs the store. Call 913-766-6601 for details.
