New Music Monday: Watch Gee Watts’ music video for ‘Hallelujah’

Here’s a fresh piece from a rapper we haven’t heard much from since he released his full-length, 199x, in July last year. Gee Watts is back on the scene in a big way with the celebratory new single “Hallelujah,” the first off his forthcoming new record, CaviART (due out in February).

The video for the track came out last week, and we’re keeping it on loop in our browser. It’s good to have Watts’ smooth flow back in our ears again — even if the underlying message he carries in “Hallelujah” comes with a sobering look at his own personal struggles. (It’s hard, too, not to listen to some of the lyrics — Thank God those killers ain’t shoot us, and I’m so nice this shit is scaring me — being delivered in front of a church without considering the June shooting at Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina and the subsequent string of church fires.) If this is the kind of content we can expect from Watts on CaviART, well, that album can’t come soon enough.
