New flavors bring novelty to classic fountain drinks as Western Sodas arrive at the Big Biscuit

Western Sodas

The Big Biscuit introduces its own take on the “dirty soda’s” trend with five specialty Western Sodas. Each drink has a foundation of popular fountain drinks, with added coconut cream and lime. And even with the limited ingredients, the Big Biscuit achieves many unique flavors to try.

The Western Sodas

The Orange Creamsicle with Orange Crush soda, coconut cream, and lime has a tangy energy from the lime, sweetness of the soda, and sustained flavor from the cream. The drink immediately engages your senses with sparks of citrus and carbonation. It stays true to the flavor of the soda and compliments its familiar features.

The Stallion follows a similar pattern with coconut cream and lime added to Dr. Pepper. Somehow the flavor of the soda creates a toasted coconut taste that is very nutty and smooth.  While the coconut shines in the Stallion, the lime is not as distinct but only adds a little brightness to the overall palette. You can’t go wrong with this combination. It’s the least risky choice if you are unsure about Western Sodas and tastes like a nutty twist of the classical ice cream and soda combo.

These two sodas have independent flavors even with using mostly the same unique add-ins, but the other three Western sodas have a bit more to explore. For instance, the Dolly has a base of Starry, the coconut cream and lime, and strawberry puree. This creates a fruity flavor with subtle tartness at first which is then settled by the fullness of the cream. The lime and strawberry flavors work together to bring both sweet and sour without overpowering each other.

A similar variation to the Dolly swaps Starry with Mountain Dew to create the Desert Sunset. While the flavor profile of this drink is similar to the last, the soda has a lighter, more electric taste. The lime is less distinct in the presence of Mt Dew, but the overall beverage still has a citrusy tang and a distinct coconut flavor that lingers

Perhaps the most unique of all the Western Sodas is the Cowboy Colada, with Starry, coconut cream, lime, and pineapple. The two fruits are the first thing tasted and blend together in a sour, bright jolt. The coconut and pineapple give a familiar tropical flavor while the sweetness of the Starry counterbalances the sour. Even with the cream bringing a more tropical taste, it also soothes the other strong flavors.

Brunch BurgerWhat to get with the sodas

Getting these drinks on their own is a great treat but if you want some substance before consuming so much sweetness, the Big Biscuit recently added a hearty breakfast option. The Brunch Burger is a true combination of breakfast and lunch with both classic burger ingredients like pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and ground beef and breakfast staples including fried eggs, hash browns, and bacon.

This burger is big. Few could eat it with their hands, and while it is hard to get all the layers in one bite, there is always a mix of textures and familiar flavors. Crunchy bacon and hashbrowns, vinegary pickles, and rich, savory eggs together create a satisfying, substantial brunch option.

Any soda that the Big Biscuit offers can be westernized by adding coconut cream and lime. So find your own favorite flavor combination on your next visit.
