New Belgium Clips of Faith is coming to Theis Park later in May

There’s not much better than watching a movie outdoors under the stars. OK, there is — watching a movie under the stars while drinking a beer. New Belgium Brewing Co. is going to take care of the movie and the beer when its Clips of Faith film tour stops at Theis Park (533 Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard) Thursday, May 21.

The whole night — from 7 to 10:30 p.m. — is a fundraiser for BikeWalk KC, the nonprofit that tries to make this city a better place for bicyclists.

This year’s beer list goes 17 deep. Here’s what to expect:

* Coco Mole
* Film Noir Stout
* La Folie
* Oatmeal IPA
* Pear Ginger Beer
* Rampant Imperial IPA
* Skinny Dip
* Somersault
* Transatlantique Kriek
* Trippel
* 1554
* Blue Paddle
* Fat Tire
* Ranger IPA
* Shift
* Slow Ride Session IPA
* Snapshot Wheat

So New Belgium is sending the good stuff, notably Transatlantique Kriek, La Folie and Film Noir Stout, which is only available at the Clips of Faith tour dates. New Belgium describes Film Noir as a “milk dud in beer form” due to it being a “caramel, chocolate, vanilla, milk, imperial milk stout.”

How rare is Film Noir? Each of the 21 stop gets one keg. So, if you try one beer, this is the one you’ll want. (Three-ounce samples cost $1.50 and 12-ounce pours $6.) All of the beer sales go to BikeWalk KC.

And it may not last long. New Belgium is hoping to draw 1,800 people to Theis Park.

The 15 films, each under five minutes in length, were selected from more than 100 submissions, and this year’s films deal with “outdoor adventure, environmental activism, comedy, art, craft beer, and more.” The films will be shown on an inflatable 30-foot screen.
