Needmore Discs is closing.

Erik and Colleen Voeks announced on Facebook this morning that their record store in Shawnee, Needmore Discs, will be shutting its doors for good on August 2. Thanks to Robert Moore for passing along the note.
July 3rd is Needmore Discs six year anniversary, and six years is a pretty fair innings. Right? We’ve had some good times. Sold a bunch of CDs and records. Met some awesome people. Paid the bills. But as George once sang “All things must pass” and “all things” includes Needmore Discs. The music retail business has been changing. The writing has been on the wall for quite a while, and quite frankly we’re burnt out. Our last day of business will be August 2nd. After so many years of working music retail it’s hard to imagine doing anything else…but do something else we must. Thanks to all the very wonderful friends we have made that have followed us around from music store to music store over the years and supported us in so many ways….you will be missed so very much. Stop in over the next few weeks and take advantage of the bargains…but call ahead if you’re only interested in visiting with Otis.

This is some sad news. I went down to Needmore this past National Record Store Day, and business looked pretty brisk. But then again, it was National Record Store Day. Shawnee — and, indeed, Kansas City — will be the poorer with Needmore gone. But we understand. Folks gotta move on in their lives. We at the Wayward Blog wish the Voekses the best of luck in their future endeavors.
