Mylab

Mylab is one of those albums that gives eclecticism a good name while refuting the axiom that too many cooks spoil the broth. Veteran avant-garde keyboardist Wayne Horvitz (Zony Mash, John Zorn) and studio sorcerer Tucker Martine have gathered fourteen of their closest musician friends (including Bill Frisell, Eyvind Kang, Bobby Previte, and Skerik) to forge a sonic travelogue that treads away from the beaten path and trades in some tried-and-true beats. Mylab’s aural adventurers create the impression that they can go anywhere, do anything and make it sound fascinating rather than dilettantish. Mylab venerates traditional folk music from America and Africa while infusing it with modern production techniques and rhythmic mutations. Funk, jazz and psychedelia also get run through the Mylab filter and come out sounding exotic. On Mylab, everything old is new again, and vice versa.
