Sonic Spectrum Tribute Series
Robert Moore’s monthly tribute series continues, with pop-minded rock acts Minden, Ghosty, Sons of Great Dane, plus Brodie Rush and Dan
Talmadge paying homage to the Beach Boys. Do you wanna dance? You will wanna dance.
Sunday, June 26, at RecordBar (1020 Westport Road, 816-753-5207)

Punk Rock Formal
The first was at somebody’s house, and last year’s was at the Jackpot. This year, the Punk Rock Formal graduates to The Granada. Between 1 p.m. and midnight, something like 13 acts — including Pass-a-Fist, Sleepy Hollow Points and Baby Boomers — make the kind of noise that would have John Hughes turning over in his grave.
Friday, June 24, at The Granada (1020 Massachusetts, Lawrence, 913-842-1390)

Joplin Benefit at the Myriad House
News coverage has quieted down, but Joplin is still a mess. Contribute another eight bucks directly to a Joplin family and catch some live, vaguely Christian music at the Myriad House (formerly Main Street Café) starting at 6 p.m. Sick/Sea, the Sound of Deliverance, Shane Radford and more.
Monday, June 27, at the Myriad House (3111 Wyandotte, 913-302-8206)

Bill Callahan
His Smog albums are good in a lo-fi kind of way, but since he started recording under his real name about five years ago, Bill Callahan has been on a creative tear that stacks up against anything going right now. It’s deeply weird
music dressed in formal Americana attire, and it’ll warm your heart or chill your bones — often at the same time.
Wednesday, June 29, at RecordBar
(1020 Westport, 816-753-5207)

Missouri Chainsaw Grassacre
A kind of holiday for bluegrass fans, the Missouri Chainsaw Grassacre presents an entire day (from noon to midnight) of regional ‘grass acts in the Crossroads. If sunburn-phobic, you can turn up around 8 p.m. and still catch the Wilders, Split Lip Rayfield and Cornmeal.
Saturday, June 25, at Crossroads KC at Grinders (417 East 18th Street, 785-749-3434)

Summer Fest Madness
Ten bucks to see one of the area’s best rappers (Stik Figa), best DJ teams (Barbaric Merits) and, uh, best funk/soul/Afrobeat acts (Hearts of Darkness)? All in the same night? This is a steal any way you look at it.
Friday, June 24, at the Riot Room (4048 Broadway, 816-442-8179)
