Making Movies, Your Friend
The final show at RecordBar features two of the area’s busiest and most noteworthy acts: Making Movies, performing Latin rhythm-infused rock, and singer-songwriter Taryn Miller, known as Your Friend. Both have had a stellar 2015, and 2016 is shaping up to be equally excellent, with new music promised in the new year. Bring your tissues, wear your dancing shoes and prepare to use both.

Wet Ones, Phantom Head
Blind Tiger is not exactly a champagne-bottle-popping bar, but don’t underestimate the midtown spot’s ability to throw a party. On New Year’s Eve, DIY-punk act Wet Ones is set to demolish the stage, and Phantom Head’s gnarly, tetchy rock should aid in that mission. Kenneth Kupfer and Zach Campbell, who make up half of Wet Ones, are also Blind Tiger’s bookers, so expect a couple of special guests to firm up the lineup. DJ Dan Ohm keeps the music flowing between sets. Bonus: If you make a reservation for eight or more people, you get a complimentary bottle of — no, not champagne — Three Olives Vodka. Now that’s incentive.

Split Lip Rayfield, Rolling Foliage, Sugar Britches
It’s going to be a bluegrass New Year’s Eve at the Bottleneck when Wichita cowpunk band Split Lip Rayfield delivers a riotous version of “Auld Lang Syne” (at least, we hope that’s on the set list). Lawrence roots trio Rolling Foliage and all-female folk foursome Sugar Britches are also on deck for an extra-twangy end to 2015.

Hearts of Darkness, the Red-Headed League, Jupiter & the Moons
Hearts of Darkness headlines Thursday’s grand opening of Prohibition Hall, a new music venue at 1118 McGee. If it has been a minute since you caught the unstoppable funk act, there’s no better place to hear it again as you dance into 2016. The Red-Headed League brings 1960s-era garage rock, and psychedelic jam band Jupiter & the Moons rounds out the evening.

The Life and Times, Roman Numerals, the Outhouse
New Year’s Day is a bittersweet one at RecordBar. Owners Steve Tulipana and Shawn Sherrill reunite their early-aughts band the Roman Numerals for a final blowout show. The Life and Times, helmed by former Shiner guitarist Allen Epley, comes along for the ride, and the Outhouse revives its 2000s-era power pop. This is RecordBar’s penultimate show, and — as Tulipana says — “It’s bound to get stupid.”
