MSTRKRFT
If God is dead, no one told MSTRKRFT. This Toronto-based duo resurrects Old Testament fury on the turntables. Jesse Keeler and Alex Puodziukas (Al-P) follow up their 2006 debut effort, The Looks, with the same hard-banging loops that have made MSTRKRFT the master of the electronic remix. Its newest tracks — set for official release in early 2009, under the appropriate title Fists of God — feature the sort of aural excess and heedless pastiche that would have Andy Warhol bumping and grinding in his grave. Keeler and Al-P’s arm-waving musical ethos makes raging against the machine feel lamely anachronistic. The result is a synthesized sex-machine ride for the God-fearing soul.
