Mr. T Experience

It’s never fun when a band preempts an opportunity to crack wise about itself by making the joke first. And damn it all if Dr. Frank, guitarist, vocalist and sole original member of the Mr. T Experience, didn’t already christen the pop-punkers “MTX Starship” years ago. At least six band members have come and gone since MTX’s first full-length release in 1986, when The A-Team was still on the air. The majority of the ex-members rocked bass, but nevertheless contributed to the sprawling discography that’s expected from a punk band closing in on two decades, the most recent addition being the band’s latest, Yesterday Rules. MTX has yet to cross into the mainstream like bands of a similar vein, but the band’s music continues to branch out while keeping its trademark understated sense of humor. Which isn’t to say the bright lights won’t someday shine on MTX. In fact, the band has to be on the short list for potential performers of the love theme to Mannequin III.
