Mr. Dibbs

To look at him, Mr. Dibbs probably wouldn’t strike you as one of the hottest DJs in underground hip-hop. No, he looks more like (a) that bald, tattooed guy with the gnarly goatee from Queens of the Stone Age, (b) that bald, tattooed guy with the gnarly goatee from Anthrax, or (c) that bald, tattooed guy with the gnarly goatee throwing a trash can through a Starbuck’s window. But any anarchist tendencies only make Dibbs that much more the perfect progressive to man the beats for indie hip-hop kings Atmosphere. Dibbs has characterized his relationship with Atmosphere MC modestly (“He’s the big shark, and I’m the little dick-suck fish that rides on the bottom”), but the co-founder of Scribble Jam and co-conspirator for 1200 Hobos has made a name in his own right by mixing hip-hop, punk and blues in a style he calls “balls-out turntable hardcore.” Which is precisely the kind of thing you’d expect him to say.
