Movin’ Out

Only a truly incendiary imagination could turn a four-page puppet play into a fully choreographed multimedia performance of dance and theater. Luckily, such an explosive mind belongs to choreographer Bill T. Jones. The dance man got accolades from critics, including kudos from The New York Times, when his Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company first presented A Quarreling Pair to New Jersey audiences last year. The show is inspired by Jane Bowles’ 1946 play of the same name and concerns two elderly sisters who have never set foot outside. Amazement, of course, ensues when one eventually does. She steps right into the world of vaudeville, in fact, and encounters a cruel drag queen among other colorful characters. Now on tour, A Quarreling Pair comes to Lawrence for a 7:30 p.m. performance at the Lied Center of Kansas (1600 Stewart Drive). For tickets, call 785-864-3469.
