More Big Star sadness: R.I.P Andy Hummel

Big Star fans have already had a rough 2010: the band’s lead singer and songwriter, Alex Chilton, passed away in March, several days before his scheduled appearance at SXSW. Andy Hummel, the band’s original bassist, performed at the subsequent tribute. Sadly, Hummel passed away at age 59 after a two year battle with cancer, according to Ken Stringfellow’s Twitter. (Stringfellow was the band’s current bassist.) His death comes almost four months exactly after Chilton’s death.
