Monster Magnet

After a 3-year hiatus, Garden State stoner-rock powerhouse Monster Magnet returns with its sixth release and a new lineup, delivering a supercharged kick in the ass for anyone in its way. The group has risen in popularity thanks to heavy, guitar-driven lap-dance ditties such as “Negasonic Teenage Warhead” and “Space Lord,” proving that the whole sex, drugs and rock-and-roll trifecta is still a winner. Throw in a pile of leather, some ’70s glam and a hint of trailer trash, and you’ve hit the jackpot. Monolithic Baby remains loyal to this recipe for debauchery, loaded with double-wide rockers such as “Slut Machine” and “Unbroken (Hotel Baby).” You won’t find any Bon Jovi power ballads to take the edge off some true New Jersey rockers. In fact, frontman Dave Wyndorf fired his last drummer and bassist because they were, he said, “afraid to rock.” Move over, Springsteen and Soprano. There’s a new boss in Jersey.
