Modest Mouse

Indie-rock monster Modest Mouse lumbered into the mainstream with 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News, then topped the album chart in 2007 with We Were Dead Before This Ship Even Sank. Since then, the band has mostly looked backward, with the singles-and-outtakes patchwork No One’s First, and You’re Next and a rerelease this year of the well-loved The Moon & Antarctica on vinyl for Record Store Day. But who needs something new? Isaac Brock is busy doing other things, like posing in lederhosen for a portrait for Mayor Sam Adams of Portland, Oregon. (Really — look it up.) Opening is Avi Buffalo, whose 19-year-old members approach tangled, ambling melodies with the breathless abandon of a summer fling.
