Missouri Rep. Todd Akin not sorry for saying liberals have a ‘hatred of God’

Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood) wants to be a senator. What’s the best way for a congressman to make that jump? Akin seems to think it’s by discrediting the religious values of all liberals. He told a radio show on Friday, “At the heart of liberalism, really, is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God.”

What topic of discussion provoked Akin to make such a startling, hurtful statement? Abortion rights? Gun control?  Keeping religion out of public spaces? Nope. It was NBC’s coverage of the U.S. Open. The network aired a little opening segment before golf coverage last Sunday. In the video, a group of children is shown to be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, but the “under God” part was noticeably omitted. The whole thing didn’t sit well with Akin.
