  • In Missouri, it’s not a sandwich unless it covers half your face.

Break out those extra-large sweatpants from Costco, Missouri, because you’re going to need something with an elastic waist. Missouri ranked 12th among states for adult obesity rates (people with a body mass index of 30 or higher) in a new study from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Show-Me State clocked in with an obesity rate of 30.3 percent. Kansas rolled in one spot behind Missouri, tying Ohio for 13th place with an adult obesity rate of 29.6 percent. Mississippi clocked in with the highest rate in the nation at 34.9 percent. Missouri and Kansas are eating their way toward a top-10 ranking. Unlike the Olympics, this is one contest where you’d rather finish off the podium.
