Ming & FS

Beck is such a pussy. “Two turntables and a microphone”? Sure, he’s just one guy, but that’s it? How about two guys, four turntables, one guitar, one bass and an assload of drums? Still think you’re hot shit, Beck? Keep strumming that acoustic guitar and leave the real heavy lifting to Ming & FS. Straight out of Hell’s Kitchen, this New York duo of hip-hop, masters of drum-‘n’-bass — called “junkyard” these days — have been mixing their own mystical wares since 1996. And, as heavy players on the NYC scene, they’ve earned respect through production efforts with P. Diddy, Craig David, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Suzanne Vega. But what good are you if you can’t re-create your lab experiments outside the sterile studio environment? It’s the same question that these two mix monsters try to ask and answer. Splitting an atom is easy, but doing it in front of a writhing mass of groove-starved hipsters? Better leave it to the professionals.
